Flowers brought from a friend’s garden–what could be sweeter? Nestled together in close proximity, these flowers remind me of families I know. Some are large with many members, some small like my family of three.  Each family is unique in its joys and challenges. Today, our families are living under all sorts of stresses. In the Old Testament, Nehemiah once spoke this advice to families that were living in a stressful condition, “Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons and daughters, your wives and your homes.” It’s good to remember that families are worth fighting for. We learn later that the people to whom Nehemiah spoke continued their work with one hand and held a weapon in the other.  To me that is a great visual! Working hard, but keeping at bay the outside influences that could harm or destroy your family. I am blessed to have so many strong Arizona families in my life, and this painting is a tribute to them all.
