Crowdsourcing – Succulents, Huntington Gardens, CA
60×48 oil on canvas
Last April while stumbling through Southern California, we carved out an afternoon to visit one of my favorite places, the Huntington Gardens in San Marino. It was perfect timing as the roses were in bloom and the Desert Garden was plump from recent rains. The sky, however, was not cooperating. This happens to me often at the Huntington. I have limited time and the sky is grey. After a visit with the roses, I situated myself in front of a large plating of succulents and waited. And then, miraculously, the clouds parted and the dramatic shadows appeared. Sometimes chasing blue skies requires patience, but that’s when the drama happens and my heart warms.
