Friendship, Hawaiian Bouquet, Dahlias
30×30 oil on canvas 2019
A lot could be said about friendship. At various stages of our lives, people come, they go, they teach us, they love us, they support us. At my particular stage of life, with a grownish child, older parents, timeworn marriage and a busy career, I find myself leaning on my dear friends even more. Being social at any stage of life is important, but while you are in the trenches, well it a necessity. Sharing challenges and joy, ups and downs, sorrow and failures. We walk side by side. That is how God designed us.
What does any of this have to do with a bouquet of Dahlias? These are special dahlias, grown and arranged by a Hawaiian for her framer’s market stand in Waimea, Hawaii. I spied them on Mother’s Day this year, while in the company of some pretty special friends. Gathered together, perfectly arranged, reflecting each other’s colors. These special moments don’t need an exotic location. They can occur where ever two or more are gathered, over lunch, on a walk, or looking at art. Cherish the moments.
Dedicated to my friends, March 2019
